Both the AJS and Matchless were produced in the same Associated Motor Cycles (AMC) London factory from 1945 until 1966
The only major difference between the two brands was that Matchless singles mounted their magdyno behind the cylinder, and the AJS mounted it (quite noticeably) ahead of its cylinder
