1913 Indian Eight-Valve Race Bike
  • The Indian Eight Valve was primarily a board track racer created for competition purposes
  • Riders raced around steeply banked ovals made from wood planks often at speeds of up to 100 mph
  • The overhead four valve design allowed the engine to withstand the extreme temperatures of high speed racing
  • The four smaller valves dissipated heat better than a two valve design
  • This twin has a 61ci engine (1000cc) and does not have brakes or a clutch
  • In race configuration, the throttle was set wide open.
  • The rider varied race speeds by using the left hand grip which controlled the spark advance, the kill switch, and controlled skids
