- NSU (Neckarsulm Strickmaschinen Union) began as a knitting machine manufacturer in Germany, shifting to motorcycle production in 1900
- By 1903, NSU was producing it's all NSU motorcycle (engine and chassis) with more than 2,000 sold over two years
- By 1910, it had extended its range with new singles and V twins of various displacements as well as racing motorcycles that claimed records at Daytona Beach and early board tracks
