1983 Honda CX650 Turbo
  • In early 1980s the cycle turbo wars were heating up
  • Honda made this effortless high speed tourer with a top speed of 140 mph
  • In 1983, the bottom dropped out of the economy and people stopped buying motorcycles so Honda ceased production
  • Honda started with the CX500 Turbo which was a 125 mph bike, but bad turbo lag and a complex fuel injection and computer system gave us the CX650
  • This is one of 1,200 imported into North America
  • To make matters worse for Japanese importers, Harley Davidson successfully petitioned for a tariff on all Japanese motorcycle imports of 700cc and larger this year
