1962 Steyr-Daimler-Puch 250 Racer
  • This beautiful racer is based on the Puch 250 SGC sport bike marketed in the US by Sears as the Allstate 250 or Twingle
  • The split single sends the intake air fuel mixture up one bore to the combustion chamber, sweeping the exhaust gases down the other bore and out of the exposed exhaust port
  • The two stroke engine features two cylinders, one connecting rod piggy backed on another, sharing a single combustion chamber
  • The rationale was it could give better exhaust scavenging than a traditional two stroke, while minimizing the loss of unburnt fuel through the exhaust port, delivering better economy and partial speed drivability
  • Racing versions of split singles can be mistaken for a regular twin since they had two exhausts and sometimes two carburetors
