  • Gnome & Rhone was a major French rotary aircraft engine manufacturer that produced thousands of engines for the WWI war effort
  • By 1923, the Paris based company began producing motorcycles
  • The 1937 AX2 800cc twin was specifically designed for sidecar use for the army, but this one was probably a solo Police Force unit
  • The front forks are sprung by rubber bands and the wheel bearings are placed outside the wheel hubs for easy replacement
  • This machine spent most of its life in Belgium and was personalized with a Bosch headlamp and a speedometer relocated from the tank top
  • It is featured in the March/April 2024 issue of Motorcycle Classics
