  • The Sportster was the American Superbike of the late 1950s and early 1960s
  • The origins of the XLCH began in 1958. It was originally set up as an off road bike with 1 inch more ground clearance and was sold with no headlight, taillight, or mufflers
  • The XLCH model proved popular and in 1959 lights, mufflers, and full fenders were fitted
  • By 1963 a key was fitted to the top of the magneto and a tachometer was offered
  • The styled H in the checkered flag on the oil tank stands for the high compression model
  • 1001 XLCH models were built in 1963, each priced at $1,355
