Description

Few modern automobiles have a connection to American automotive history quite like the Troy Indy Special. Built by Wisconsin-based 7fifteen Motorworks, the Indy Special was born from a remarkable piece of American custom-car history: Wally Troy's original 1959 roadster. That one-off creation captured the imagination of the custom-car world in its day, earning recognition on the show circuit and appearing in the October 1960 issue of Hot Rod.

More than six decades later, 7fifteen Motorworks set out to bring that distinctive design back to life. Rather than simply reproducing its appearance, 7fifteen used a precise 3D scan of the original Troy Roadster as the foundation for its modern interpretation. The result is a hand-built aluminum roadster that retains the character and proportions of Troy's original while incorporating modern engineering, suspension, braking, and driveline technology.

The Troy Indy Special was deliberately limited to just 33 examples, giving each car the character of a coachbuilt automobile rather than a conventional production sports car. 7fifteen's approach combines a tubular steel chassis, hand-formed aluminum coachwork, modern running gear, and meticulous finishing to create something that exists comfortably outside the ordinary categories of the collector-car world. It is vintage-inspired without being vintage, and thoroughly modern without sacrificing the mechanical character that makes the original design so compelling.

Chassis PD-011 was specified from the ground up by a discerning collector and finished in Aston Martin Racing Green over Relicate Alspice Tan leather. The Black Bronze powder-coated chassis is complemented by mirror-finish chrome suspension and exterior details, gold-tinted wheel faces, stainless steel side pipes, a tinted windscreen, and the 7fifteen Roundel graphics package. Full paint protection film extends throughout the car, including the underside, reflecting the exceptional level of care given to this example.

Power comes from a Chevrolet Performance 6.2-liter LS3 V8 producing 495 horsepower, paired with a TREMEC T56 six-speed manual transmission and Cadillac CTS-V independent rear differential. With its lightweight construction and modern mechanical components, the Troy delivers the kind of direct, analog driving experience that has become increasingly difficult to find in contemporary performance automobiles. With only 468 miles, PD-011 has barely begun its life.

For the collector, the appeal of PD-011 extends far beyond its striking appearance. It represents one of only 33 opportunities to own a modern interpretation of a historically significant American roadster, created by a specialized Wisconsin builder with a direct connection to the original car. The combination of Wally Troy's history, 7fifteen Motorworks' craftsmanship, a highly considered collector-specified color combination, extremely limited production, and just 468 miles makes PD-011 a particularly compelling example of modern American coachbuilding.
