Description

This RCR GT40 Replica – Chassis #1041010100 is a remarkable tribute to one of motorsport's most legendary endurance racers. The original Ford GT40 dominated Le Mans from 1966 to 1969, including back-to-back 24-hour victories in 1968 and 1969 by chassis 1075, which won six races in 11 starts. This replica faithfully recreates that history in the period-correct Gulf #4 livery as raced at the BOAC 500 in England by Jackie Ickx and Brian Redman.

Built as a labor of love with 4,800 man-hours, this RCR 40 reflects meticulous craftsmanship and an uncompromising attention to detail. The car features a custom 347 CI Ford V8, bored and stroked from the original 302, professionally built by Motor Masters of Hartford, WI, and dyno-tested at 475 horsepower at 6,500 rpm. The engine includes a Dart 4-bolt main block, forged Eagle crankshaft and rods, Mahle pistons and flywheel, Edelbrock Victor Jr. heads and intake manifold, Holley 750 carburetor, and MSD ignition, all feeding through a classic stainless steel 180° “bundle of snakes” exhaust system. Power is sent to a period-correct RBT-built ZF 5-speed transaxle with reverse via CV-joint style half-shafts.

The chassis is a welded, polished aluminum monocoque with hand-laid fiberglass bodywork, including 2-inch rear fender flares, and period-correct paint and decals. Measuring 40.5 inches tall and weighing approximately 2,350 pounds, the car captures the exact dimensions of the original GT40. CNC billet aluminum suspension components, AN aircraft hardware, and QA1 double-adjustable shocks provide exceptional handling, while Wilwood brakes with 6-piston front and 4-piston rear calipers stop the car confidently. Vintage BRM-style pin-drive wheels with functional tri-wing spinners complete the authentic look.

The interior is both functional and refined, with leather seats, a hand-made leather console, quick-release steering wheel, black removable carpeting, a full black powder-coated roll cage, integrated heater and air conditioning, and 5-point harnesses for safety. Dual 10-gallon aluminum fuel tanks and a modernized electrical system with color-coded harness, integral fuse box, Pollak toggle switches, CVF alternator, Optima Red Top battery, and Holley fuel pump ensure reliability while maintaining vintage styling.

Every single component of this build has been itemized and fully documented, from the chassis and engine to the smallest ancillaries. Every purchase, invoice, and detail of the assembly process is recorded, providing complete transparency and a detailed history of the build.

With a total documented build cost of $113k, including chassis, engine, transaxle, bodywork, and ancillaries, this RCR GT40 Replica represents the pinnacle of craftsmanship, attention to detail, and respect for racing history. It is a ready-to-drive homage to one of the most iconic endurance race cars ever built and a rare opportunity to own a turn-key collector-quality GT40 replica with a fully documented provenance.
