Description

Behold a striking relic from 1971—a DeTomaso Pantera that has seen only 10,463 miles on its original odometer. Previously part of the esteemed Colin Comer Collection, this vehicle is a pristine example of a pre-“L” Pantera, untouched by modern alterations and free from the later government-mandated bumper modifications.

Its story begins on a summer day in 1972, when Formula 5000 and IndyCar competitor Bob Lazier bought the car brand-new at Denver's Kumpf Motor Car Company. Bob, a seminal figure in the Lazier racing dynasty—later honored as CART Rookie of the Year in 1981—passed the vehicle on to a family steeped in Indianapolis 500 lore, with his sons Buddy (the 1996 Indy 500 winner and 2000 IndyCar champion) and Jacques carrying the legacy forward.

For nearly four decades, this Pantera was a cherished member of the Lazier family in Vail, Colorado, maintained with the utmost care and stored with reverence between its rare drives. In 2011, a new owner stepped in when the odometer read a mere 6,564 miles, commissioning a specialist to give the car a thorough service. Soon after, expert detailer Tim McNair from Grand Prix Concours Preparation in Philadelphia gave it a meticulous cleaning, ensuring every inch of the car shone as brightly as its heritage.

Today, the Pantera boasts its original bright yellow finish and classic black interior. Beneath the hood, the authentic 351 CI 4V Cleveland V-8 engine powers the car, mated to its original ZF 5-speed manual transaxle. Notably, the vehicle retains its original spare tire, jack, and tool kit. Newer Michelin XWX radial tires fitted to its original magnesium Campagnolo wheels. Recently serviced and the Air Conditioning has been upgraded to R12 refrigerant.

This Pantera is not just a car; it's a time capsule that epitomizes the spirit and purity of the first-generation model. Its single-digit mileage, unwavering ownership history, and impeccable preservation make it a truly exceptional piece—an automotive masterpiece destined for the most discerning collections.
